Last Minute Pre-Holiday Amazon Checklist

Ensure Your Amazon Account and Listings Are Ready for the Holiday Season

As the holiday season rapidly approaches, ensuring your Amazon account and listings are ready to capitalize on this crucial sales period is essential. With consumers eagerly searching for gifts and holiday deals, any oversight can mean missed opportunities and lost revenue. Whether you're a seasoned Amazon seller or navigating the complexities of the marketplace for the first time, this last-minute pre-holiday checklist will help you ensure everything is in order.

As a consultant specializing in eCommerce and Amazon strategies, I've seen firsthand how proper preparation can make or break a seller's holiday success. Here’s how to make sure you’re not leaving money on the table this holiday season.

1. Optimize Product Listings for Holiday Shoppers

Your product listings are your storefront. Before the holiday rush, take the time to review and optimize your product titles, bullet points, and descriptions. Ensure that they include relevant keywords, are clear, concise, and speak directly to the holiday shopper's needs. Consider adding holiday-themed language where appropriate, such as “Perfect Gift for [Recipient]” or “Holiday Special.”

Quick Tips:

  • Use tools like Helium 10 or Jungle Scout to identify trending holiday keywords.

  • Update your product images with holiday-themed graphics or context shots that resonate with holiday shoppers.

2. Optimize Your Brand Store and Graphics for Holiday Shoppers

Your Amazon Brand Store is a powerful tool for driving conversions, especially during the holidays. Ensure your store is fully optimized with holiday-themed graphics, banners, and messaging that resonate with seasonal shoppers. Highlight your best-selling products, create gift guides, and use holiday colors to create a festive atmosphere.

Quick Tips:

  • Update your store’s homepage with holiday banners and featured product sections. Schedule the day your holiday store launches and ends.

  • Create gift guide sections tailored to different types of shoppers (e.g., gifts for her, gifts under $50).

  • Ensure all graphics are high-resolution and mobile-friendly, as many shoppers will be browsing on their phones.

  • Align your “Amazon Posts” with your off-Amazon social media and schedule these posts in advance.

3. Review and Adjust Pricing Strategies

Holiday shoppers are always on the hunt for deals. Make sure your pricing strategy is competitive, but also ensure you’re not eroding your margins. Consider implementing dynamic pricing strategies that allow you to adjust prices based on demand and competitor activity.

Quick Tips:

  • Review your pricing tool strategies or set up Amazon’s Automated Pricing to remain competitive.

  • Plan your promotional calendar ahead, including Lightning Deals, Coupons, and Sponsored Products to drive traffic.

4. Ensure Inventory Readiness

Nothing is more frustrating than stockouts during peak sales periods. Conduct a thorough inventory review to ensure you have enough stock to meet the holiday demand, but not so much that you're left with excess inventory post-holiday. Leverage tools to forecast demand accurately and adjust your orders accordingly.

Amazon FBA Deadline:

  • To stay in stock this peak season and guarantee your products are Prime badge-ready during holiday deal events, your FBA inventory should have already been sent to Amazon as your holiday inventory must arrive at US fulfillment centers by October 19th to be processed and received to be available curing the Cyber 5 weekend.

Leverage Amazon Warehousing and Distribution (AWD):

  • To help optimize your holiday inventory strategy, consider using Amazon Warehousing and Distribution (AWD) as a low-cost bulk storage solution with pay-as-you-go pricing. With AWD, Amazon will automatically replenish your products to fulfillment centers based on demand signals to help you maintain the right FBA inventory levels. There are no additional fees for AWD during peak times, and inventory that’s auto-replenished from AWD doesn’t count toward your FBA capacity limits.

  • For Black Friday and Cyber Monday specifically, your inventory must arrive at AWD distribution centers by October 19.

  • If you’re not utilizing AWD, consider testing year and optimizing its use during next year’s holiday season.

Quick Tips:

  • Utilize Amazon’s Restock Inventory tool to avoid stockouts.

  • Consider Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) and AWD to handle increased demand and ensure fast shipping.

5. Enhance Your Advertising Strategy

With more competition during the holiday season, your usual advertising strategy might need a boost. Increase your ad budget, refine your targeting, leverage holiday-specific campaigns to capture the surge in traffic, utilize Brand Promotions, utilize coupons and send off-Amazon traffic to your Amazon storefront and listings.

Quick Tips:

  • Launch Sponsored Product and Sponsored Brand campaigns focused on holiday-related keywords.

  • Regularly monitor your campaign performance to adjust bids and budgets as needed.

  • Send off-Amazon traffic to your storefront and listings and back this up with retargeting campaigns.

  • Coupons – turn off coupon stacking.

6. Prepare for Customer Service Excellence

Excellent customer service is more critical than ever during the holidays. Ensure your team is ready to handle the increased volume of inquiries and returns. Speedy and helpful responses can make the difference between a one-time purchase and a loyal customer.

Quick Tips:

  • Have a clear return policy that is easy to find and understand.

  • Train your customer service team on how to handle common holiday-related issues, such as shipping delays or product returns.

  • If you’re doing any consumer shipping, ensure your warehouse/3PL is properly staffed and prepared with inventory and shipping supplies. In addition, ensure your shipping team is ready and has the capacity to meet shipping deadlines.

7. Review Account Health and Compliance

The last thing you want is a suspension during the busiest time of the year. Check your account health metrics and address any outstanding issues. Ensure you’re compliant with Amazon’s policies to avoid any disruptions.

Quick Tips:

  • Regularly monitor your Account Health dashboard.

  • Address any policy violations or performance issues immediately.

8. Leverage Amazon’s Holiday-Specific Programs

Amazon offers several programs designed to help sellers maximize their holiday sales. Take advantage of programs like Amazon Vine for early reviews for new products and leverage Subscribe & Save (S&S) to encourage repeat purchases.

Quick Tips:

  • Enroll new products in Amazon Vine to build reviews.

  • Use Amazon’s Holiday Gift Guides to feature your products.

  • Increase your standard Subscribe & Save discount to take advantage of the increased traffic to get the first S&S sale and increase your S&S subscriber base.

Final Thoughts:

The holiday season is a make-or-break time for Amazon sellers.
